Entry 6: Area of Specialization
Digital Teaching & Learning
Area of Specialization: EDCI 786 Dreamweaver Web Design
~This was my very first class as a graduate student. Here is a link to the classroom
website I created, and continue to maintain, using Dreamweaver software. This has been
an amazing tool to enhance the communication between my students, their parents, and
myself. I use it for posting newsletters, spelling lists, and class projects, just to name a few.

Area of Specialization: EDCI 786 Wireless Technologies
~In this class, not only did I learn a great deal about handheld technologies I can use in my
classroom, I also learned a lot about the technical side of those wireless technologies. The
following project is the mock purchase order I created for wireless technologies from
Apple.

~In "Wireless Technologies," I read many articles about 1:1 laptop initiatives, and became
very intrigued in the benefits of such a program. This is a paper covering the basic
concepts of a 1:1 initiative.

Area of Specialization: EDCI 887 Professional Seminar I
~I was lucky enough to take ProSeminar I & II in concurrent semesters. These two
semesters were one of the highlights of my program. I had the honor of working closely
with Dr. Rosemary Talab, as well as a small group of incredible educators and leaders
from across the country. We all learned so much from each other, and still keep in touch
through Twitter and email.
~Here are the notes I took when I moderated our class session on Adobe Connect.
Moderator Schedule
~The following link is a blog post for a web tool review on "Make Beliefs Comix." After
reviewing this web tool, I now use it with my 3rd graders!
Web Tool Review Blog Post
~I joined Twitter, which has been a life-changing experience. I learn so much from my
PLC (personal learning community) every day!

~For my final project in ProSeminar I, I wrote a UbD for a Virtual RoadTrip to study
landforms across the United States. I have done this project with my 3rd graders to great
success!

Area of Specialization: EDCI 888 Professional Seminar II
~ProSeminar II continued my year of discovery in educational technology. I became
interested in instructional design after interviewing Dr. Kirsten Butcher, of the University
of Utah. Here is that interview, as well as an example of an instructional design model
(Heinich, Molenda, Russell & Smaldino's ASSURE Model) for a Charlotte's Web novel
study.

~A study of two different Change Models. To see my Change Action Plan, please see
Entry 9, Professional Goals.
Change Models
~Our class spent time in Second Life, a virtual world. Here are screenshots from that
experience.
